(iv) Rationale:

This is a new type of school, part of the Local Authority system, which will come into operation in April 2008, following the Education and Inspections Act 2006. As a self-governing Trust School, Manor Foundation Business, Enterprise and Sports College will benefit from increased financial and management autonomy, building on the strengths of local management and the expertise of the Governing Body and external partners. Manor Foundation Business, Enterprise and Sports College enjoys strong partnerships with a range of external organisations and the move to Trust Status would allow the school to build on existing relationships, formalise what already takes place and offer a stronger voice to its partners. The school believes that together they can help raise standards by developing new practice.

(v) New direction:

The Trust partners will contribute to the advancement of education and help raise standards in the following ways:

  • Greater participation through increased opportunity to foster social cohesion and responsibility to promote safer community.
  • Promotion of a healthy lifestyle through participation in sport, healthy eating and positive lifestyle choices.
  • Enhanced learning pathways with greater learner engagement will raise attendance and achievement levels. This will also increase the retention levels at post 16 and 18 and reduce the numbers not in employment, education or training.
  • Enhanced leadership opportunities based on the Sports Leaders Model rolled out across other curriculum areas.
  • Greater engagement and involvement will help build community cohesion. More volunteers and group leaders will emerge. Those not in education, employment and training will be encouraged to participate.
  • Through more focused curriculum entitlement, learners will have opportunities to experience learning in context through business, commerce and leisure partnerships.
  • Business Enterprise activities will further develop economic awareness. Work experience will focus upon the specialisms of the school. Sport related experiences will help increase participation in sport and may help lead to developing 2012 champions.
  • This is a summary notice of the proposal to make the alterations listed above. Copies of the full proposals can be obtained from the Clerk to the Governors, Manor Foundation Business, Enterprise and Sports College, Friar Park Road, Wednesbury WS10 0JS marilyn.rogers@manor.sandwell.sch.uk
