Inclusion Unit
The Inclusion Unit was set up as a facility to allow the removal of disruptive pupils from mainstream lessons and to provide a means by which these pupils can be given the time to:-
- reflect upon their inappropriate behaviour both within the classroom and/ or around school,
- to be actively engaged with their school work without the opportunity to distract and interfere with the efforts of others,
- To develop strategies that will enable them to manage their behaviour more effectively, i.e. dealing with confrontations and anger issues.
The Unit is currently staffed by two teachers (Mr. P. Wale and Mrs. S. Sadler) who have a wide range of experience with both difficult pupils and with the delivery of the school’s curriculum for most subjects.
Within the Unit there are areas designed to accommodate the 3 types of pupil referral that we receive.
- An Isolation room where pupils may be sent for 1-3 days.
- An area where pupils who have been withdrawn from specific lessons can receive additional support to improve their level of achievement,
An Alternative Curriculum area that is predominantly used by KS4 pupils, who have difficulties accessing mainstream lessons and require long-term intensive support.
All rooms have computers with internet access and each area is fully resourced with departmental text books, revision aids, design materials and GCSE coursework exemplars.

The Unit also allows access to external agencies such as NACRO and NOVA who provide vocational opportunities and work placements for KS4 Alternative Curriculum pupils.
